BIOMASS PROCESSING

In June 2008, a complete environmentally-friendly scheme was included in the production schedule. It is a line for stabilization of biodegradable wastes "SBM Olšovec".

Strojírny Olšovec, s.r.o., had already contributed to environmental schemes before. It had been only part-deliveries for various process equipments, mainly components of plastic and debris crushers.

General Characteristics of “SBM Olšovec” Facility

The “SBM Olšovec” facility is a process equipment which complements the system of mechanical and biological treatment (MBO) of selected biodegradable wastes (BDW).

The controlled hydrothermal stabilization process makes it possible to assure mechanical and biological transformation of MBO, so that this waste becomes biologically stable for its further possible utilization or disposal.

The process equipment of “SBM Olšoves” is intended mainly for small and medium producers of pollution (municipalities, agricultural farms etc.). It may also be used as an independent technological element or as an auxiliary element for existing process equipment providing MBO of biodegradable wastes (biogas stations, compost plants, waste water treatment plants).

Basic Technical Specifications of the “SBM Olšovec” Facility

The processing equipment “SBM Olšovec” consists of groups of machines integrating mechanical treatment, homogenization, material stabilization and shape finishing of biodegradable materials (BDM), including the control and process control systems, in one process.

The processing equipment is designed in the way, so that requirements for its operational installation are minimal.

The processing equipment is offered in three performance ranges for the amount of processed BDM, namely:

Dimensions of the equipment (a × b ×c):

4000 x 1300 x 1700weight 1500 kg
6000 x 2000 x 1700weight 3500 kg
8000 x 2000 x 1700weight 4800 kg

Electrical connection: 380 V / 50 Hz

Functional Characteristics of the “SBM Olšovec” Equipment

The technical equipment mechanically modifies and homogenizes input BDM, and it processes it to the form of the final product or intermediate product for further processing by the technology of controlled hydrothermal stabilization and shape finishing.

Operating staff provides composition optimizing of the possible BDM components, setting of technological parameters and checking of the utility facilities operation.

Presentation of the Featured Item in View of Its Utilization and Putting into Service

The basic characteristic feature of the facility of “SBM Olšovec” is its operation simplicity and price availability. With its controlled process of hydrothermal stabilization of BDM with continuous operation, it is intended for small and medium processors. The technical solution with the possibility of controlled BDM hydrothermal stabilization process utilization, it allows wide usage mainly in municipal collecting centres and agricultural plants. It can also become a suitable complement to existing equipment for disposal of BDM as an alternative low-waste or no-waste technology for safe BDM handling. The technical facility for BDM hydrothermal stabilization is a practical solution to a set of theoretically defined biochemical processes of BDM stabilization.

Environmental Benefits of the New Technological Facility

The problem of disposal of biodegradable wastes is significant as to necessity of negative effects minimization of contaminants originating in these processes during substance and energy cycles in the environment. The European as well as the local Czech legislation and standards overrun technical and technological possibilities of small and medium business subjects, which produce this kind of waste. Techniques and technologies of industrial disposal of BDM offer standard solutions, which are not environmentally-optimal for various reasons. No technology alternative to the traditional ways of BDM disposal has been offered to municipalities, agricultural plants, small food and other processing plants.

The environmental aspect of the technical facility “SBM Olšovec” consists mainly in the possibility of BDM disposing in the place of its production and nearby this place. There is no need for expensive, ineffective and usually dangerous handling and long-distance transportation to the BDM central processer. On the contrary, the facility under consideration can be easily adapted as a mobile device. The technological process of stabilization takes place in a hermetically closed reactor, so no release of smell or other emissions occur. The processed BDM is stabilized without any dangers to the environment and subsequently, it can be materially or energetically utilized.

Disposal of more kinds of BDM with the possibility of their qualitative utilization for further utilization is possible thanks to the optimization process of weight part of particular BDM components at the entering to the technical facility in relation to the technology of follow-up processing.

The construction of the technical device meets all valid operation and safety regulations. On the basis of the operation test results, the manufacturer has applied for inclusion of the technical device under consideration to the so-called “Best accessible technologies (BAT)” at the Czech Ministry of Environment.

Description of the Technological Facility

Biodegradable material gathered in the depository is dosed to a space conveyer by a mobile loader poz.1. The space conveyer provides the functions of mictonization, homogenization and transportation. The facility is waterproof against possible leak of released bound liquid from the substrate. After micronization and homogenization, the substrate is transported by a narrow pipe conveyer poz.2. to a vibration feeder which is equipped with magnetic separation poz.3. for catching of possible metal foreign matters. The vibration feeder equally doses the substrate to a worm press, which presses onto the substrate during its transportation to the reactor poz.4.

Due to movement of the material through the reactor and by influence of thermal energy with time delay of the substrate in the reactor, the stabilization process and decomposition of the substrate to solid and fluid components happen. The solid component is transported through a balance reactor poz.. to a worm closure poz.7. with an expander poz.6. The solid component is then transported for further processing, drying and forming poz.13.

The gaseous compound is drawn off under pressure from the reactor through a control valve to a two-sheathed container poz.10. used for gathering of the fluid compound and adding of thermal energy to an exchanger poz.10. The gained energy is used as need may be, either in the technological process, for example in the drier poz 13., or outside the technological line.

The fluid compound can be gradually released to the separation unit poz.11. in order to get microelements from the process fluid by means of a control valve. Whether this solution is used is decided on the basis of input substrate composition and according to customer´s request.
